Prof. Kithure Kindiki has officially taken office as the third Deputy President of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, with Chief Justice Martha Koome presiding over the event. In accordance with the Assumption of Office Act, Prof. Kindiki pledged his commitment by taking the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of the Deputy President’s office.
Shortly after taking his oaths, Prof. Kindiki signed them, affirming his commitment to fulfilling his duties as per the law. Chief Justice Koome countersigned the oaths, which were sealed by court officials and subsequently handed over to the Attorney General for official safekeeping. The ceremony also included President William Ruto’s symbolic handover of the Constitution of Kenya to his new Deputy.
The ceremony concluded with a brief photo session that featured President Ruto, Deputy President Kindiki, Chief Justice Koome, the First Lady, and Kindiki’s spouse. Prof. Kindiki steps into office following the impeachment of his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, for alleged gross constitutional violations.
