Emily Awita, Chairperson of the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), has announced that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will hold its grassroots elections on November 27, 2024. These elections will take place across all 47 counties, covering every Polling Unit/Centre. This new date follows a postponement from April 2024, initially due to widespread flooding that prevented the elections from proceeding as planned.
The elections will involve the selection of 30 officials per Polling Unit/Centre, with representatives from three key committees: the Mainstream, Women League, and Youth League. The Mainstream committee will elect positions such as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, Women Leader, Youth Leader, and three Committee Members. Similarly, the Women and Youth Leagues will elect Chairpersons, Secretaries, Organizing Secretaries and their deputies, Treasurers, and three Committee Members. The party has emphasized the inclusion of persons with disabilities and minorities in these roles to promote diversity within each category.
Voting methods will include consensus or voting by a show of hands, with the elections scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 27. County Election Coordinators, in collaboration with Polling Unit/Centre coordinators, will oversee the process to ensure it runs smoothly.
ODM members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the guidelines in the Party Primaries, Nominations, and Election Rules handbook, available on the party’s website. Members can also verify their registration status by dialing 483036#. The NECC, under Article 61 of the Party Constitution, is responsible for coordinating all ODM elections, including these grassroots elections.
