Moses Marite, former manager of Mugiithi artist Samuel Muchoki, better known as Samidoh, is currently in custody following allegations of mishandling funds meant for Samidoh’s performances. Marite was arrested in Sagana after Linus Marangi, the marketer for Pcash Lounge, reported that a Ksh 100,000 deposit for Samidoh’s performance was unaccounted for. Samidoh claimed he had not received the funds, which were reportedly collected by Marite without informing the artist.
Marite was arraigned in Baricho Magistrate’s Court on October 22, where he did not contest the charges. He faces accusations of fraudulently collecting performance deposits under Samidoh’s name, an issue that has raised questions about his five-year tenure as Samidoh’s manager. In response to his detention, Marite’s friends have started a WhatsApp group to fundraise the Sh100,000 needed for his bail.
The fundraising message emphasizes urgency, as Marite’s hearing is scheduled for November 12. Although Marite and Samidoh share a long history dating back to their school days in Ol-joro-orok, Laikipia County, Samidoh publicly announced on September 24 that Marite was no longer authorized to conduct business on his behalf. This announcement came amid concerns about their business dealings, adding further complications to Marite’s current legal troubles.
