The second suspect in the gruesome murder of Deka Abdinoor Gorone, whose boiled bones were discovered at Lang’ata Cemetery, was presented in court on Friday. Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi granted police 21 days to hold Jared Mong’are to allow for further investigations into the case.
Mong’are, who was apprehended in Eldoret, was found with several items, including a blood-stained panga believed to be the murder weapon. According to detectives, Mong’are allegedly handled payment transactions for the victim’s stay at Lavington Valley Heights Apartment and drove the victim to the venue in a Toyota Vitz. The vehicle was later recovered at Ngara Civil Servants estate and taken to the DCI Headquarters for forensic examination.
The investigation also revealed that the apartment where the prime suspect, Hashim Dagane Muhumed, checked in with the victim was a short-term rental managed by a Kilimani-based businesswoman, who was subleasing it at a monthly rate of Ksh55,000. The businesswoman reportedly vacated the apartment on November 1, 2024, just a day after CCTV captured Hashim leaving the premises on October 31.
Detectives have also uncovered that Hashim may have been in possession of the victim’s mobile phone or SIM card, which he used to contact her family multiple times. A forensic trace led officers back to Lang’ata Cemetery, where they found a phone and clothing items matching those worn by the victim. These items have been retained as evidence.
Police have indicated they will also investigate Hashim’s possible connection to other unresolved murder cases. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together details of this complex case.
