Former President Donald Trump has won a second term in office, nearly four years after his controversial departure from Washington.
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in an election marked by unexpected developments, including a criminal trial involving Trump during the campaign, two assassination attempts, and a shift in the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
This victory makes Trump the first president in over 120 years to regain the White House after a previous defeat, following in the footsteps of Grover Cleveland, who achieved the same feat in 1892.
Trump’s path to 270 electoral votes followed an intense 100-day campaign against Harris, with close polling in seven battleground states until Election Day.
He ultimately secured a clear victory by flipping Georgia back to his side, holding North Carolina, and breaking through the “blue wall.”
Trump is also projected to narrowly win the popular vote, a milestone he did not achieve in 2016 and one that Republicans have managed only once since 1992.
