Claudia Naisabwa, a rising MC and presenter, has expressed deep gratitude to comedian Eddie Butita for his pivotal role in guiding and protecting her during her early days in Kenya’s entertainment industry.
Starting her career at just 19, Naisabwa, then a student, joined Butita’s platform, SPM Buzz, as a presenter. It was there that she encountered the highs and lows of an industry both alluring and challenging.
Naisabwa candidly revealed the difficulties she faced as a young woman in the entertainment world, including encounters with predatory individuals seeking to exploit her innocence and ambition.
She credits Butita for stepping in as a mentor during this vulnerable time, helping her navigate the complexities of the industry while maintaining her integrity.
“There are a lot of challenges in the entertainment industry, especially for young girls like me. There is the good and the bad, and I can assure you there are wicked people everywhere,” Naisabwa shared.
She noted that Butita’s mentorship shielded her from inappropriate advances and provided her with critical insight into the true nature of people within the industry. “Whenever someone made a pass at me, I’d confide in him, and he would advise me about that person. He helped me see beyond appearances,” she added.
Beyond protection, Butita’s approach as a mentor stood out for its respect and encouragement of Naisabwa’s autonomy. “He guided me on what was right and wrong but always left the decisions to me,” she explained, emphasizing how this allowed her to grow both personally and professionally. His guidance wasn’t limited to work; he became a trusted confidant, someone she could rely on in all aspects of her life.
Naisabwa highlighted the trust and respect they share, underscoring how Butita’s mentorship extended far beyond the professional realm. “Even today, if someone approaches me or I’m dating someone, Butita knows. He keeps all my secrets—he’s someone I can trust completely,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey, Naisabwa acknowledged how Butita’s mentorship shaped her career and helped her maintain her dignity in an industry fraught with challenges. For her, Butita is more than a former boss; he’s a protector, a friend, and a vital figure in her personal and professional growth.
