Kenyan comedian Sylvia Savai, popularly known as Senjee Comedy, is reportedly preparing to take legal action after two online platforms, Ghafla Kenya and Pulse Live Kenya, mistakenly reported her death.
The error occurred last week when both platforms confused Ms. Savai with actress Eillene Otieno, who passed away last Monday and was also widely known as “Senjee” in the entertainment industry.
The platforms compounded the error by using Sylvia Savai’s photo in their reports, leading to widespread confusion and panic among her followers and family.
Pulse Live Kenya acted quickly, taking down the inaccurate post minutes after publication and issuing a public apology the following day. However, as of Monday, December 2, Ghafla Kenya’s post remains online, further aggravating the situation.
Ms. Savai, who is living with endometriosis, stated that the incident caused her significant emotional distress, exacerbated by her existing health challenges.
She also revealed the toll it took on her family, especially her mother, who was devastated by the misleading reports.
“The posts have ruined my mental health. People thought I was dead because my followers know I’m sick. My mum was so devastated that she became ill,” she said. “How reckless can you be at work? They couldn’t even make an immediate public apology until the next day. It looks like it was deliberate; they knew exactly what they were doing.”
The comedian is now seeking justice for the harm caused, citing gross negligence and the immense mental and emotional damage inflicted on her and her loved ones. .
