In Maua Town, Meru County, four suspects were arrested on Thursday, December 5, during an operation in which they attempted to sell firearms to undercover police officers.
Authorities recovered two AK-47 rifles and two bullets during the sting operation.
The suspects were lured by detectives posing as arms buyers. They had concealed the weapons in a miraa bag and arrived at the agreed meeting point in Maili Tatu aboard a motorcycle.
The negotiation was for the sale of the rifles at Ksh 300,000. However, the suspects were apprehended when the supposed buyers revealed themselves as law enforcement officers.
The suspects were ordered to surrender, handcuffed, and taken into custody.
Police indicated that the suspects will be presented in court, where authorities will seek permission to detain them further as investigations continue.
The arrests are part of a broader effort to address rising crime in the region.
Maua Town has recently experienced a surge in armed robberies and attacks, prompting community outcry and intensified police operations.
Authorities have promised additional crackdowns to dismantle the networks behind the increase in criminal activity.
