A video showing a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer harassing Citizen TV journalist Agnes Oloo during a live broadcast has sparked widespread public outrage.
The incident occurred on the morning of December 5 at DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, where Oloo was covering the summoning of Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa.
The senator had been summoned following disruptions caused by goons at a funeral attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In the footage shared on social media by Citizen TV and senior reporter Ayub Abdikadir, a man believed to be a DCI officer is seen aggressively confronting Oloo.
The officer attempted to seize her camera as she prepared to record events outside the DCI facility. Despite her visible attempts to plead with him to stop, the officer persisted and ultimately chased her from the area.
Oloo retreated briefly but later resumed her coverage from a safe distance. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight at a government facility, has been met with widespread condemnation.
In response to the uproar, Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja issued an apology to Oloo, acknowledging the misconduct.
He attributed the incident to some officers acting overzealously and assured the public that the matter had been addressed.
“We have some officers who are overzealous, and this is an issue we have addressed. We apologise for the incident,” Kanja stated.
