Bishop David Oginde, Chair of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has appointed Abdi Mohamud as the commission’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 11, 2025. The appointment was officially gazetted on December 5, 2024.
Mohamud, currently serving as Deputy CEO under outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak, will become the third CEO of the anti-corruption body. His six-year non-renewable term follows a successful vetting process by the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee. The National Assembly subsequently approved his nomination, with the committee stating, “This House approves the appointment of Mohamud as the secretary and CEO of the EACC.”
During his vetting, Mohamud pledged to maintain the commission’s independence, vowing to prevent political interference during his tenure.
With over 30 years of experience in investigating corruption and economic crimes, Mohamud is well-versed in law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts.
He began his career in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector in the Kenya Police Service before joining the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (now EACC) in 2005. At EACC, he has held various positions, including Director of Investigations and head of the Rapid Response Division.
An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Mohamud’s expertise and leadership are expected to bolster the commission’s efforts in combating corruption. He succeeds Mbarak, a former military intelligence officer, who took over from Halakhe Waqo in 2019.
