On Friday, December 6, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Creative Economy Kipchumba Murkomen announced state appointments to prepare for the 2025 CHAN tournament and the 2027 AFCON, which Kenya is set to co-host with other East African countries.
Through a gazette notice, Murkomen established the Pamoja CHAN 2024 and Pamoja AFCON 2027 Multi-Agency Team (MAT) to oversee preparations for these major football events. The MAT will be responsible for planning, coordination, and execution of all activities related to hosting the tournaments.
The appointments include prominent figures such as Radio Jambo presenter Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee and Homeboyz Radio CEO Myke Rabar. Mulee has been named as a member of the National Steering Committee, while Rabar will serve as the Head of the Secretariat for the MAT.
The Secretariat, comprising nine members, will operate from the Ministry of Sports, Talanta Plaza in Nairobi, managing the day-to-day affairs of the team.
Other key appointees include Stephen Musonye, former Secretary General of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), who will chair the National Steering Committee, and Elias Makori, a veteran sports journalist, who joins as a committee member.
This multi-agency initiative signals Kenya’s commitment to successfully hosting the CHAN and AFCON tournaments, marking a significant step for East Africa in international football.
