A 52-year-old man in Nakuru tragically lost his life following an acid attack allegedly perpetrated by his second wife during a domestic dispute on the morning of Thursday, December 5.
Neighbors responded to the victim’s cries for help at 6:00 a.m., finding him in severe pain.
“I found him on the couch crying, saying he was dying. Though he had a dark complexion, he had turned pink. His children told me acid had been poured on him,” one neighbor recounted.
The man was rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital but succumbed shortly after due to severe internal and external injuries.
According to the victim’s eldest daughter, her father had described the horrifying sequence of events. He explained how his wife began the morning by rummaging through his documents and yelling at him before leaving the bedroom, only to return with a jerrican.
“He thought it contained water, but it was a corrosive substance,” she said.
The daughter further alleged that this was not the first attempt on her father’s life, claiming the stepmother had previously restricted communication between the man and his children.
“Our father even created a coded message to let us know he wasn’t comfortable speaking on the phone because she had warned him against talking to us,” she revealed.
Area chief Vincent Siro confirmed that a container with the acid was recovered, alongside evidence of tampering.
“A highly corrosive substance had been poured on the mattress. The woman’s son was arrested for attempting to conceal evidence by removing the bedding and hiding it in another house,” Siro stated.
The victim’s brother added that the suspect left the hospital soon after the family arrived, taking the victim’s phone and important documents in what appeared to be an attempt to siphon money.
“She made three unsuccessful attempts to withdraw money using the wrong PIN, which blocked the account. Two title deeds were also missing,” he claimed.
The suspect was arrested later that day after presenting herself at Kaptembwo Police Station to record a statement.
Authorities are investigating the incident, which has left the victim’s family grieving and calling for justice.
