Several Members of Parliament (MPs) from Tanzania sustained injuries in a bus accident on Friday morning while traveling to Mombasa, Kenya.
The bus collided with a truck at Mbande in Kongwa, Dodoma. The MPs were on their way to participate in the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG).
Although the exact number of injured MPs remains unclear, no fatalities were reported. The injured lawmakers are receiving treatment at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma.
The EAC-IPG, now in its 14th edition, was set to begin on December 6, 2024, and run until December 17.
Established in 2009 by a resolution of the 4th EAC Bureau of Speakers, the annual games rotate among East African Community Partner States. They aim to strengthen relations between the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the parliaments of member states.
