Prominent car dealer Khalif Kairo will remain in custody at the Capitol Hill Police Station until tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14, at 2 PM, when Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina is expected to deliver a ruling on his bail application.
Kairo is facing charges of fraudulently obtaining KSh 2,145,150 from a client in July 2024. The client alleges that the money was paid for the delivery of a vehicle, which was never fulfilled. Kairo has denied the charges.
The prosecution has opposed Kairo’s release on bail, arguing that he is a flight risk. This claim is supported by an affidavit from a DCI officer, which details the challenges authorities faced in locating him.
However, Kairo’s defense team, led by Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, dismissed these assertions, emphasizing that Kairo has been cooperative with investigators since the complaints were filed. They also assured the court that their client has no intention of fleeing the country.
