The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced the appointment of Gerald Nyaoma Arita as its Deputy Governor. Nyaoma’s tenure is set to commence in January 2025 following his appointment by President William Ruto in November 2024.
In a statement, the CBK highlighted Nyaoma’s extensive career within the institution, where he served from August 1988 in various senior capacities. These included roles in the Financial Markets, Banking Services, and Internal Audit Departments, eventually becoming the Director of the Bank Supervision Department.
Nyaoma’s appointment underwent the standard vetting process. After his nomination by President Ruto, his name was forwarded to the National Assembly Finance Committee, led by Kuria Kimani, which approved the appointment. The Senate later ratified the decision, paving the way for his return to the CBK.
Having started his career at the CBK as a management trainee in 1988, Nyaoma brings 36 years of experience in the financial sector to his new role. “It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome him back to the Central Bank of Kenya,” said CBK Governor Kamau Thugge in a statement.
Nyaoma will serve alongside Susan Koech, who is also a Deputy Governor at the CBK.
