Dr. Peter Mbae has announced his resignation from the position of Head of Government Delivery Services, citing persistent challenges that have hindered his ability to execute his duties effectively.
In a resignation letter seen by BRK, Dr. Mbae expressed his frustrations with unresolved issues that he had repeatedly raised with the government through Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
“It has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended, and my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable,” Dr. Mbae wrote.
Acknowledging the public nature of his appointment, Dr. Mbae explained his decision to formally step down:
“In order to be accountable to the people of Kenya, owing to the fact that the appointment was widely circulated, I therefore request to formally disengage from this appointment so as to pursue other interests.”
Dr. Mbae was appointed in June 2024, tasked with overseeing the implementation of government programmes and projects across various ministries, departments, and agencies. However, his tenure appears to have been fraught with challenges that, according to him, remained unaddressed, ultimately leading to his resignation.
This development raises questions about the operational dynamics within the government’s delivery services and the effectiveness of systems designed to address internal concerns. Dr. Mbae’s resignation has sparked discussions on the need for reforms to enhance efficiency and accountability in government service delivery.
Dr. Mbae has not disclosed his next steps but mentioned plans to pursue other interests.
