At least two Kenyan families have been evacuated from their homes as wildfires continue to devastate Southern California, the Kenyan Consulate in Los Angeles announced yesterday.
Consul General Ezra Chiloba urged Kenyans in the region to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to evacuation instructions to ensure their safety.
“Monitor updates from local authorities, follow evacuation instructions promptly, and prioritize your safety,” Chiloba emphasized in a statement.
The wildfires, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, have forced thousands of residents to flee their homes, posing significant risks to lives and property.
Chiloba expressed gratitude to members of the Kenyan diaspora who have stepped up to support those in need.
“We take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt appreciation to members of our community who have opened their homes to accommodate evacuees. Your generosity and solidarity exemplify the strength of our diaspora,” he said.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto has expressed his condolences to families who have lost loved ones and those who have suffered losses due to the devastating fires.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected. We stand in solidarity with you during this challenging time,” the president conveyed.
The Kenyan community in the U.S. continues to rally together to support those impacted by the crisis.
