Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his one-time deputy Polycarp Igathe reunited after years of separation during a private ruracio ceremony in the upscale Runda estate on Sunday. The event celebrated the engagement of Luios Muthengi Kimanzi and Matilda Igathe, Polycarp Igathe’s daughter.
The reunion between Sonko and Igathe, who were elected on a Jubilee ticket in the 2017 General Election, marked a nostalgic moment. The two were seen exchanging pleasantries and mingling with guests, suggesting a rekindling of their camaraderie despite their past political differences.
Igathe resigned from his role as deputy governor in January 2018, just six months into office, citing an inability to gain the trust of his boss, Mike Sonko, to deliver services effectively to Nairobians.
The ceremony was highlighted by a special gesture from Sonko, who gifted Igathe an exclusive bottle of Johnnie Walker King George V whiskey. In response, Igathe thanked Sonko and humorously invited the guests to share the premium drink, saying:
“Nashukuru sana Sonkoree and bwana Kimanzi, this is to friendship..endeni sasa mgawane hii.
