A 23-year-old nanny linked to a robbery in Nairobi’s Eastleigh Estate in November 2024 has been apprehended after weeks of evading capture.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced her arrest on Tuesday evening, revealing she was detained at Nairobi’s Kariokor area while attempting to board a bus heading to Uganda.
The suspect, identified through CCTV footage, was seen collaborating with a male accomplice during the robbery at her employer’s residence on November 1, 2024.
The incident resulted in the grievous assault of a 20-year-old househelp who was present during the robbery.
According to the surveillance footage, the robbery occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. The male accomplice was captured approaching the house, forcefully gaining entry as the househelp hesitated to open the door. After entering, the assailant chased the fleeing housekeeper, ultimately striking her with a hammer when she fell near the kitchen door.
The arrested nanny, who witnessed the assault, fled the scene with the intruder, stealing gold jewelry, a laptop, a phone, and cash valued at Ksh 335,000.
Reports filed at Pangani Police Station indicate that the assault victim was left for dead in the bathroom. She suffered severe injuries, including a broken tooth, wounds to her hands, head, and legs, and signs of whipping.
At the time of the robbery, the tenant was away with his children, while his wife was in India for medical treatment. The DCI continues to investigate the case as the suspect awaits arraignment.
