Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of orchestrating chaos after a prayer meeting organized by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, was disrupted by Maina Njenga and a group of youths.
The incident occurred at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri County on Saturday, forcing Pastor Dorcas to leave the event prematurely.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gachagua criticized the government, alleging that Njenga, whom he referred to as the leader of an outlawed criminal gang, was being used to instigate chaos in the country.
“Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any government can go, no matter the level of desperation,” Gachagua wrote.
The disruption comes against the backdrop of heightened political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region following Gachagua’s impeachment from the deputy presidency.
Since his ouster, Gachagua has launched sharp criticisms of the government and President William Ruto, urging the region’s residents to remain cautious of Ruto’s leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Maina Njenga, a former Mungiki leader, has resurfaced in the political scene following Gachagua’s impeachment, fueling speculation that he may be positioning himself as President Ruto’s key ally in the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.
Njenga, however, has denied claims that he is Ruto’s new point man, dismissing the allegations as baseless.
The incident at Kamukunji Grounds has further underscored the growing political divide in the central region, with Gachagua asserting that the government is using divisive tactics to undermine his influence and sow discord among residents.
