Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to unveil his political party in early February as he positions himself for the 2027 General Elections.
Allies close to Gachagua have confirmed that preparations for the launch are in the final stages. The move is aimed at reasserting his influence on the national stage and consolidating his support base in the Mount Kenya region, which has seen increased political restlessness since his exit from office.
Former Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru revealed that the party will feature blue as one of its corporate colors.
“We are ready, and the party will be unveiled next month,” Waruguru said.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya echoed these sentiments, adding that the new political outfit will be a game-changer.
“The People’s Deputy President will soon, in the next few weeks, launch the party that will shake the country’s political landscape,” Gakuya
It remains unclear whether Gachagua will acquire an existing political party or register a new one. Recently, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has been issuing provisional registration certificates to various parties seeking full registration ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a church service at Matanya PCEA in Laikipia County, Gachagua confirmed the party’s launch timeline.
“In two weeks, I will give you direction and will do it in a live television interview. Currently, I am still consulting, but early next month, I will make a pronouncement,” he stated.
Gachagua faces mounting pressure from his allies to unveil the party as part of efforts to consolidate Mount Kenya’s political base ahead of the 2027 elections. Reports indicate he has been meeting with aspiring candidates interested in running under his yet-to-be-launched political banner.
His Wamunyoro residence has become a hub of political activity, with numerous politicians visiting to seek his endorsement ahead of the next polls.
Insiders suggest Gachagua’s party will sponsor candidates in various elective positions, setting up potential challenges for those allied with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
