Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Nick Odhiambo Migot, a former senior county official in Kisumu, on allegations of forging academic documents to secure employment.
Migot, who previously served as the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Kisumu County Government, was apprehended on Tuesday.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that Migot falsified both his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree in order to gain the position three years ago. Through these forged credentials, Migot is reported to have accumulated Ksh. 4,656,211 fraudulently during his tenure.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect forged a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree certificate, falsely attributing it to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and a KCSE certificate purportedly issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC),” Ngumbi stated. The fake documents were submitted to the Kisumu County Public Service Board during his application and interview process.
Upon concluding investigations, EACC submitted the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who filed four charges against Migot. These include:
- Forgery under Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code,
- Uttering a false document under Section 353,
- Fraudulent acquisition of public property under Section 45(1)(a) as read with Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
Migot is currently being held at Kisumu Central Police Station and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
