Salome Wanjiru, a middle-aged woman facing charges of fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Conrad Nyabuto, 27 times, did not take her plea on Thursday at the Thika Law Courts.
Her defense team told the court that Wanjiru was unwell and in need of medical attention. Appearing in court with bandages on her hand, Wanjiru indicated that a scheduled medical procedure had not been completed as planned. Her lawyer submitted a discharge summary as evidence, though it did not detail any upcoming treatments.
Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Koome postponed the plea-taking to Monday, January 20, to allow Wanjiru to undergo treatment. The court directed that she be taken to Kenyatta University Teaching, Research, and Referral Hospital for a thorough medical evaluation before being remanded at Ruiru Police Station.
Wanjiru was arrested following the discovery of Nyabuto’s lifeless body in his rented home in Kamakis, Ruiru, in mid-December 2024.
Prosecutors previously informed the court that a mental assessment had been conducted, confirming Wanjiru is fit to stand trial.
