A section of University of Nairobi (UoN) students went on the rampage early Thursday, March 27, following repeated attacks by suspected criminals near their hostels at the main campus.
The protest erupted after two men on a motorcycle attempted to rob a group of students along Arboretum-State House Road around 1 a.m. The students raised the alarm, forcing the suspects to abandon their motorcycle and flee on foot.
In retaliation, the angry students set the abandoned motorcycle on fire. Police confirmed that one suspect was nearly lynched but was saved before officers intervened.
The students also briefly blocked the road, demanding better security measures and the repair of streetlights to curb the rising cases of robberies targeting students.
