In a shocking admission during an interview with DJ Akademiks, Kanye West revealed that he regrets having children with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and expressed frustration over his lack of control in their lives.
The controversial hour-long conversation, which was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, saw the rapper openly admitting his regret, saying:
“That was my fault,” Kanye said. “I didn’t want to have children with this person after the first two months of being with her, but that wasn’t God’s plan.”
West, who shares four children with Kardashian—North (11), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (5)—expressed concern over what he sees as a lack of ownership and control over his kids’ lives. He went on to say:
“I don’t got the name and likeness ownership, or at least 50-50 with my kids,” referencing the ongoing custody battle between the ex-couple. “So how’s it joint custody?”
The rapper also spoke about how his children are being raised within a celebrity culture and how he feels excluded from important decisions regarding them.
“My kids are celebrities and I don’t have the say so,” he added.
“So this white woman and this white family have the control of these highly influential black kids that are half the children of Ye.”
West and Kardashian were married for six years, from 2014 to 2021.
