A 45-year-old woman identified as Lucy Kamau tragically lost her life after lightning struck her home in the Olalui area, Narok County, during a storm.

The fatal incident happened inside the family’s kitchen, where the mother was reportedly preparing dinner. A 58-year-old man who was also in the house sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Police confirmed that Lucy Kamau died on the spot. Her body has since been moved to the Transmara West Sub-County Hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.

“We received reports of a lightning strike that resulted in a fatality and serious injury. Officers visited the scene and documented the matter,” a police source stated.

This marks the second lightning-related fatality in Narok within days, following a similar tragedy in Oloiborsoito village, where two children were killed and two others seriously injured.

Lightning strikes are becoming increasingly common in parts of Narok County, especially during the rainy season. Local leaders and residents have renewed calls for the installation of lightning arresters in homes, schools, and community buildings to mitigate such tragedies.
