MARAIGUSHU, NAIVASHA– Anti-riot police officers on Saturday morning blocked all roads leading to Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara’s residence in Maraigushu, in a move that escalated political tension in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, heavily armed officers mounted roadblocks on key routes to her home, preventing local leaders and supporters from accessing the premises. The deployment left many residents fearful, with claims of rising intimidation by State agencies targeting leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The standoff comes barely two weeks after Kihara was dramatically arrested at her home and later charged at the Milimani Law Courts with incitement.
Leaders and Locals Storm MP’s Home
Despite the police blockade, several area leaders and locals defied the restrictions, storming Kihara’s home to express solidarity. Officers watched the events unfold without intervening.
Speaking to the press, Kihara confirmed that she had been expecting friends for moral support and dismissed claims that she needed a permit to host visitors at her private residence.
“I have the right to host anyone in my home. I will not be cowed from speaking out and defending the poor from harassment by the State,” she said emotionally, directly blaming President William Ruto for her current woes.
Political Tensions on the Rise
The incident underscores the widening rift between factions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition. Kihara, who has been vocal in defending her political stance, vowed to continue inviting friends and allies to her home regardless of State pressure.
Political analysts warn that such confrontations could further inflame tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition voices within the ruling coalition increasingly finding themselves on the receiving end of government crackdowns.
