A tragic incident has shocked Kiambu after a 14-year-old boy collapsed and died during a football training session at Loreto Girls’ High School grounds.

According to police reports, the teenager, a Grade Nine pupil at Limuru Mission Primary School, was struck in the chest by a ball during an under-17 football practice match. Witnesses said a teammate had powerfully cleared the ball, which hit the boy in the abdominal area, causing him to develop sudden breathing difficulties before collapsing.

Rushed to Hospital but Pronounced Dead

The boy was quickly rushed to Tigoni Level Four Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Police confirmed that his body, which had no visible external injuries, was preserved at the facility’s morgue pending a postmortem examination.

Witness Accounts

One witness described the shocking turn of events:

“He was just playing like the rest, then the ball hit his chest. He started struggling to breathe and collapsed immediately.”

Investigations Underway

Authorities have opened an inquiry into the incident to establish whether underlying health complications may have contributed to the sudden death.

The tragedy has left fellow players, teachers, and family members in mourning, with many calling for increased medical screening and first-aid preparedness in school sports.
