Brenda Biya, the outspoken daughter of Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, has released a viral video urging citizens not to re-elect her father in the upcoming October 12 presidential election.

In the video shared on her social media pages, the 27-year-old disowned ties to the presidential family, saying she has refused financial support from her parents.

“It’s time Cameroon gets a new president, because I will not vote for Paul Biya,” Brenda declared.

Paul Biya’s Long Rule

President Paul Biya, 92, is the world’s oldest serving head of state. In July 2025, he announced his bid for an eighth term in office, a move that could keep him in power until nearly 100 years old.

“I am a candidate in the presidential election. Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face,” Biya said at the time.

Biya has ruled Cameroon since 1982, when he succeeded Ahmadou Ahidjo. His more than four decades in power have been marked by allegations of authoritarianism, corruption, and a failure to address the country’s worsening economic and security crises.
