Ferrari driver and seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has withdrawn from a scheduled Pirelli tyre test in Mugello to remain by the side of his beloved bulldog, Roscoe, who is currently in a coma.
Roscoe in Critical Condition
Hamilton, 40, revealed that his 12-year-old bulldog was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. While undergoing medical checks, Roscoe’s heart stopped, but vets were able to revive him.
“They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of himself watching over Roscoe.
Test Duties Reassigned
Hamilton was due to take part in the tyre test on Friday, but Ferrari confirmed that reserve driver Zhou Guanyu will take over the duties in his absence.
Roscoe: The Famous Vegan Bulldog
Roscoe has become a fan favourite in Formula 1, often spotted with Hamilton in the paddock and even at podium celebrations. With 1.3 million Instagram followers, the dog is described as a “vegan bulldog that loves to travel and play ball.”
The news of Roscoe’s critical condition has sparked an outpouring of support from fans worldwide, many of whom have followed his adventures alongside Hamilton for years.
