Police in Kangundo, Machakos County, are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old girl whose body was discovered dumped in a thicket in the Kivi area on Sunday evening.

According to police reports, locals stumbled upon the body and immediately alerted authorities. Officers who responded to the scene confirmed that the body was naked and bore visible head injuries, indicating a possible violent attack.

The victim, a student at Imilini Secondary School, is believed to have been killed elsewhere before being dumped at the scene.

Police Launch Investigations

Police said the motive of the murder is yet to be established. The body was moved to the Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and further forensic analysis.

No arrests have been made so far, but detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have taken over the case.

“We are pursuing several leads to establish the motive and identify those behind this heinous act,” said one officer at the scene.

Rising Cases of Violence Against Minors

This incident adds to a worrying trend of gender-based and youth-related violence being reported in Kenya’s rural and urban areas.
Authorities have urged the public to report suspicious activities to help prevent such crimes.

For context, similar cases have been reported recently in parts of Kisii, Vihiga, and Nairobi, sparking national concern over the safety of young girls.
