Flamboyant businessman and former Youth Fund chair Gor Semelang’o was arrested and is currently in jail in Dubai, sauce.co.ke can confirm.
While details of why he was arrested are still scanty, a source who is close to the businessman has told us that Semelang’o has been behind bars in a Dubai jail cell for the last two weeks. He was arrested on October 9.
Semelango, who claims to have interests in the petroleum, transport, media and tourism industries, flew to Dubai from Nairobi on September 18 for what appeared to be a routine business trip. The flashy businessman is said to own a nightclub and restaurant in Dubai.
“Always grateful to God,” he posed on his Facebook page after arriving in Dubai.
An avid social media user where he often posts his over-the-top lifestyle, Semelango recently joined the Wiper Patriotic Front’s (WPF) National Executive Council (NEC). Speaking during a meeting at the party’s Nairobi headquarters on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, WPF party leader Kalonzo Musyoka described Semelang’o’s entry as timely in shaping WPF’s national outlook.
“Our front is getting stronger, and I’m pleased that Gor Semelang’o has officially joined us. We look forward to his contribution, particularly in youth development and media engagement,” Musyoka said in a statement on X.
It is not the first time Semelango has gotten in trouble with authorities. In 2019, he was jailed for 30 days after he defaulted on a Sh3.6 million debt. Semelang’o had failed to pay the amount to lawyer George Miyare of Atonga Miyare & Associates Advocates, who represented him in a case.
Consequently, a warrant of arrest was issued for the businessman but he allegedly found a way of evading the police traps that were set to nab him.
