Mombasa — Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard and close confidant of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, as the Advisor on Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa.
In a statement announcing the appointment, Governor Nassir said the decision follows the establishment of new executive positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with legal provisions governing county administrations.
“I have today made appointments in the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with the provisions of the law,” Nassir said.
“Mr. Maurice Ogeta has been appointed to serve as Advisor, Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa.”
Why Maurice Ogeta Was Chosen
Governor Nassir said Ogeta’s appointment was informed by his extensive experience in security matters and the institutional knowledge he has built over decades of service at local, regional, and international levels.
“This appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels, including his service to our late Founding Party Leader, H.E. Raila Odinga, C.G.H,” Nassir added.
Over 25 Years in Security Service
Maurice Ogeta boasts a security career spanning more than 25 years. He is best known for serving as Raila Odinga’s chief bodyguard, remaining by the veteran politician’s side during high-pressure political rallies, moments of unrest, and sensitive engagements both locally and abroad.
Ogeta was also present during Odinga’s final days in India, where he witnessed what many close allies describe as the last chapter of the former prime minister’s life.
Creative Arts Appointment Also Announced
In the same announcement, Governor Nassir appointed Ken Ambani as Advisor on Creative Arts, saying his experience would be instrumental in reviving Mombasa’s creative industry.
Nassir noted that Ambani’s role will focus on empowering artists, youth, and creative entrepreneurs, while contributing to the county’s broader economic growth.
The appointments signal Nassir’s intent to strengthen both security coordination and the creative economy as key pillars of his administration in Mombasa.
