A 26-year-old man from Ngomeni in Mwingi is fighting for his life after he was reportedly bitten by a black mamba while using a pit latrine at his homestead.

A shocking incident has left residents of Ngomeni in Mwingi, Kitui County, in disbelief after a young man was allegedly bitten by a highly venomous snake while relieving himself.

The 26-year-old victim is currently receiving emergency treatment at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital following the terrifying encounter.

Snake Attack Inside Pit Latrine

According to reports from the area, the man walked into a pit latrine within his homestead, unaware that a black mamba had reportedly slithered into the structure and was hiding in the dark corners.

Moments later, the snake is said to have struck, biting him in his private parts.

His screams alerted family members, who rushed to the scene and found him in severe pain. He was immediately taken to hospital for urgent medical attention.

Black Mamba Among Africa’s Deadliest Snakes

The Black mamba is considered one of Africa’s most dangerous snakes due to its highly potent venom and speed. Without prompt medical treatment and antivenom, bites can be fatal.

Medical personnel at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital are reportedly monitoring the victim closely as he undergoes treatment.

Residents Urged to Exercise Caution

The incident has sparked concern among residents, with local leaders urging households to inspect pit latrines and other enclosed spaces regularly to prevent similar encounters.

Snake sightings tend to increase in rural areas, especially during hot or rainy seasons when reptiles seek shelter in cool, dark places.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
