The Chairman of the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), Isaac Hassan, has formally resigned from his position.

Hassan stepped down on Tuesday, February 17, weeks after his appointment as a Judge of the Court of Appeal in Nakuru County.

In a notice issued by the IPOA board, the authority confirmed his resignation and announced that Vice Chairperson Ann Wanjiku Mwangi will serve as the acting chairperson in the interim.

Transition at Police Watchdog

Hassan’s exit marks a leadership transition at the police oversight body, which plays a critical role in investigating complaints against members of the National Police Service and promoting accountability within law enforcement.

His appointment to the Court of Appeal comes as part of recent changes within Kenya’s judiciary, with the Nakuru station expected to benefit from his legal and administrative experience.

IPOA has assured the public that its operations will continue uninterrupted under the interim leadership as the process of appointing a substantive chairperson begins.
