Police in Machakos County are investigating the killing of a 63-year-old man whose burnt body was discovered in a farm in the Ndithini area.
The deceased was identified as Josephat Mutua, who was reportedly a village elder and pastor in the area.
According to police, the body was found lying in a farm about one kilometre from his official residence.
Authorities said the body had been badly burnt and partially eaten by dogs by the time it was discovered.
The retrieval of the body was delayed after locals staged a standoff with police, refusing to allow officers to remove the remains from the scene. Residents reportedly questioned the professionalism of the team that had initially arrived to handle the matter.
Police later left the scene on May 4 and returned the following day, when the body was eventually transferred to the mortuary for postmortem examination and other procedures.
Investigators said the motive behind the killing remains unclear, with detectives continuing to pursue leads into the murder.
