KCB Bank Group executive Rosemary Chemutai Koech had been facing financial and marital difficulties before her death, according to her family.

Koech, 40, was found dead at her home in Ole Nairi, Ngong, Kajiado County, on August 21, 2026.

A postmortem conducted at Lee Funeral Home by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor established that Koech died by suicide.

Police said the KCB executive, who headed data protection at the bank, was found hanging from a bedroom window at her residence in Kaiyet Close.

Family Raises Financial and Marital Concerns

According to investigators, relatives became concerned after Koech failed to respond to phone calls and knocks at her bedroom door.

They eventually forced the door open and discovered her body. Police officers who examined the scene said they did not find a suicide note.

The family told investigators that Koech had previously spoken about financial pressure, including debts she was servicing, as well as challenges in her marriage.

Her death remains under police investigation as authorities continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Koech’s Career in Technology and Law

Koech had built an extensive career spanning technology, law, public policy and digital rights before joining KCB in 2022.

She previously worked as Public Policy Manager at Safaricom before being appointed KCB’s Head of Data Protection in 2023.

Beyond her corporate career, Koech was involved in technology policy and digital rights initiatives.

She served on the board of the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet), was Principal of the Kenya School of Internet Governance and chaired advisory groups associated with the Kenya and East Africa Internet Governance Forums.

Her death has left colleagues and those in Kenya’s technology and financial sectors mourning a professional who had held several prominent positions in the industry.
