Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a 36-year-old househelp whose body was discovered at an apartment in Kilimani in what is being treated as a suspected case of suicide.
The woman, identified as Grace Akinyi Mangana, was reportedly found hanging from a staircase grill at around 6:30am.
The incident was reported by the apartment caretaker after he woke up to find several tenants gathered around the staircase.
According to police, Mangana’s body was discovered on the staircase after tenants had removed her from the grill in an apparent attempt to save her.
Househelp Lived on Third Floor
Mangana was employed as a househelp by one of the tenants and lived on the third floor of the apartment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that she may have woken up while her employer was asleep before allegedly taking her own life.
Police said she was allegedly found hanging with a black cloth, although investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her body was taken to the City Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police continue to investigate the incident as they seek to establish what led to Mangana’s death.
