NAIROBI — Elvis Opiyo, the man accused of orchestrating an acid attack on SDA singer Mary Clare Ochieng, has died in Umoja, Nairobi.
Opiyo had been out on bail while facing allegations that he hired another man to attack Clare with acid, an incident that left the singer with serious burns and eye injuries requiring specialist medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding Opiyo’s death have not been disclosed.
Lamb’s Ministers confirmed his death, mourning him as a fellow minister and “brother in Christ” while sending condolences to his family and members of Lighthouse Ministries.
The death comes as the allegations surrounding the attack on Mary Clare Ochieng remained before the courts.
Opiyo had denied the allegations against him, and his death brings to an end the criminal proceedings against him personally. The circumstances of the alleged acid attack and the involvement of any other suspects remain separate matters for investigators and the courts.
