Nyeri, Kenya — A Nyeri Member of County Assembly allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has mourned his brother-in-law, who reportedly died shortly after consuming a bottle of Kibao vodka at a local bar.
The MCA said his brother-in-law had been in good health and showed no signs of illness before the incident.
According to the legislator, the deceased had completed his daily chores before deciding to visit a local entertainment joint to spend time with friends.
“A time like this yesterday, my brother-in-law was well and kicking. Very strong and not sick-looking.
“Later in the day, after his daily chores, he decided to take a sip at a local joint.
“In a matter of time, he was taken ill and declared unresponsive. Attempts to save his life were futile,” he posted.
A video circulating online reportedly shows the man being cheered on by friends as he gulped an entire bottle of Kibao vodka within a short time.
He later became unresponsive, according to the account shared by the MCA.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently established, and it remains unclear what specifically caused him to become unresponsive after consuming the alcohol.
The incident has nevertheless sparked concern over the dangers of consuming large amounts of alcohol rapidly, particularly in an attempt to impress or entertain friends.
The MCA’s message has also prompted calls for people to exercise caution when consuming alcoholic drinks and avoid drinking competitions that could put their health and lives at risk.
