At least two people have been killed following renewed clashes along the Kisii-Transmara border, with scores of others reportedly injured and several farms torched.
The latest violence has heightened fears among residents as tensions between the neighbouring communities continue to escalate.
Farms Torched as Residents Flee
Amateur footage from the area shows scenes of confrontation involving youths from the Kisii side and their counterparts from Transmara. Some of those involved appear to be armed with weapons.
Several farms have reportedly been set ablaze, leaving behind extensive destruction and forcing residents to remain indoors for fear of being caught up in the violence.
The clashes have also disrupted transport, trade and other essential services in the affected areas.
Security Officials Seek to Restore Calm
The insecurity has reportedly affected normal community activities, with some residents staying away from churches during Sunday worship because of fears of further attacks.
Security officials from Kisii and Narok counties held an emergency meeting at the border on Sunday as authorities sought ways to contain the violence and restore calm.
The cause of the latest clashes remains under investigation, while security agencies continue to monitor the volatile border area.
