Jalang’o likens Eric Omondi to scammer over push to reduce MPs and governors

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has criticised activist and comedian Eric Omondi over his campaign to collect at least one million signatures in support of reducing the number of governors and MPs in Kenya.

Jalang’o questioned whether Omondi had considered the constitutional process required to amend the country’s laws, arguing that even millions of signatures would not automatically lead to the proposed changes.

“Eric, have you read the constitution and what it takes to even change a coma? Even if you collected 50M signatures, it will still come to the parliament to be voted by the same people you want to do away with! Do you think they will vote themselves out of work?” Jalang’o said.

Jalang’o questions Sisi kwa Sisi initiative

The Lang’ata MP also challenged Omondi to provide an update on the Sisi kwa Sisi initiative, saying he had contributed to the fundraising effort.

“The other day we contributed for the Sisi kwa Sisi center, imefika wapi? We need an update because I contributed to that initiative. The day you get to know how activists make their money mutawacha kubebwa ufala!” he added.

Jalang’o’s remarks come after Omondi announced plans to collect at least one million signatures as part of efforts to push for a reduction in the number of elected leaders in Parliament and at the county level.

The exchange has reignited debate over the role of activists and political leaders in driving constitutional and governance reforms, as well as the processes required to amend Kenya’s Constitution.

Jalang’o appeared to question the practicality of Omondi’s proposed signature drive, while also demanding greater accountability over previous public fundraising initiatives.
