A man accused of assaulting a woman in Kamakis, Ruiru Sub-County, has been detained for 14 days as police continue investigating the incident that was captured on video.
Isaac Ochalo was arrested a day before appearing in court and was charged with assault causing bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Ruiru Police Commander Charles Kibathi said detectives were granted 14 days to hold the suspect to allow them to complete investigations and conduct further interrogation.
Ochalo will be held at Gatong’ora Police Station during the period.
According to a police report, Teresia Wambui Wairimu, a resident of Thika Town, was visiting her cousin in Kamakis on Sunday evening when she was allegedly assaulted.
Wairimu told police that she arrived at her cousin’s residence at around 6pm. Police said her cousin’s husband, identified in the report as Isaac Gatuthu Ocharo, was allegedly involved in a quarrel with his wife when Wairimu intervened.
The man allegedly turned on Wairimu and physically assaulted her.
Officers who visited the scene documented the incident before Wairimu was referred to Ruiru Level 4 Hospital for medical examination. Her current condition has not been made public.
The alleged assault was captured on video and circulated, prompting police action that eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
Investigations are ongoing as detectives seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
