NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi police have barred the Linda Mwananchi movement from holding a rally in the Central Business District (CBD) on Sunday, warning organisers and supporters against activities that could disrupt public order or incite violence.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said officers had received notification of the planned mobilisation through Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, but maintained that the CBD would remain off-limits.
Mohamud warned that police would not allow the capital city to descend into chaos, particularly during the busy weekend period.
“The CBD is a critical national, commercial and public space, particularly on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t even try; we will deal with you,” Mohamud said.
Police Warn Linda Mwananchi Leaders
The Nairobi police boss further cautioned leaders associated with Linda Mwananchi against making inflammatory statements or allegedly inciting violence ahead of the planned mobilisation.
Mohamud said anyone found violating the law would face legal action.
He added that both uniformed and plain-clothes police officers would be deployed across the CBD and along routes leading to the planned rally venue.
The deployment, he said, would be aimed at maintaining security, preventing disorder and managing traffic as the movement’s supporters traverse parts of the capital.
Babu Owino Announces ‘Mwananchi Tour – Kanairo Edition’
The police warning comes as Linda Mwananchi prepares to take its mobilisation campaign to Nairobi through what Babu Owino has dubbed the “Mwananchi Tour – Kanairo Edition.”
According to an itinerary shared by the Embakasi East MP, the tour is expected to begin at All Saints Cathedral after a church service.
The group will then proceed to Marikiti and Gikomba markets, followed by Burma Market.
The planned route also includes stops at Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja, before the group proceeds along Jogoo Road.
The mobilisation is expected to culminate at Jacaranda Grounds.
Police Demand Peace During Nairobi Mobilisation
Police have urged organisers and supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement to maintain peace and adhere to the law throughout the planned activities.
The latest warning sets the stage for heightened security around the CBD and along the movement’s planned route as authorities seek to prevent disruption while allowing lawful public activities to proceed.
