A family in Nyakach, Kisumu County, is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of a suspect who fatally stabbed their 25-year-old son, Tony Omondi, following a bizarre confrontation over a pair of trousers at a commercial store in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate.
The victim, who was an employee at the business premises, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he was undergoing treatment.
The Fatal Eastleigh Store Confrontation
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, September 27, 2026, when Omondi went to the business premises to inquire about his missing trousers. Upon arrival, he discovered a colleague—alleged to be a Ugandan national—wearing the exact clothing items.
A heated argument quickly ensued between the two co-workers. Witnesses state that during the altercation, the suspect reached for a sharp weapon hidden on the store’s roof structure and stabbed Omondi once in the lower abdomen before immediately fleeing the scene.
Family Recounts Final Moments
The victim’s father, Bernard Omondi, received a distressing phone call from one of Tony’s workmates shortly after the attack occurred.
“The colleague told me that Tony had a confrontation with someone at work and he had been stabbed,” the grieving father stated.
Tony’s sister, Juliet Omondi, rushed to the Eastleigh business area where she found her brother in critical condition. Despite receiving preliminary first aid, the family grew deeply concerned about the quality of his initial medical attention.
“When I arrived, I found Tony had received first aid and was lying in a charcoal store, but he still looked weak,” Juliet recalled.
Seeking specialized emergency care, the family transferred him to KNH, where he fought for his life for two days before losing the battle.
DCI Pangani Launches Manhunt for Suspect
Ibrahim Abdi, the manager of the Eastleigh store, confirmed that the violent altercation took place within the business facility. However, Abdi noted that the management lacked comprehensive background details on the attacker, as he had only been employed there for a few days.
According to the manager, the fugitive had been brought in as a temporary replacement, referred by another employee who was away on leave at the time of the stabbing.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Pangani Police Station have took over the case. Police have launched an active manhunt and are currently pursuing critical leads to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspe
