Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has officially entered the race for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown. Speaking during an interview with on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Mosiria confirmed that he intends to be fully on the ballot, directly challenging Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to a contest of numbers.
Mosiria stated that his decision to run is heavily fueled by a desire to settle political scores with the vocal Embakasi East legislator at the polls.
“Yes, because I want to deal with Babu Owino once and for all; we finish this. We shall meet at the ballot; we see who has the numbers. If I don’t win? Why should I not win?” Mosiria declared.
Mosiria Dares Babu Owino: “Let’s Meet at the Ballot”
The Chief Officer went a step further, daring Babu Owino to bring his political backing to the gubernatorial race to prove who truly commands the city’s majority vote.
“Wacha tupatane kwa debe ya gavana, wewe ukuje na goons tuone nani atashinda (Let us meet on the gubernatorial ballot, you come with your supporters and we see who wins),” Mosiria challenged.
Babu Owino has previously made public his intentions to succeed the current administration, making Nairobi a critical battleground ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Mike Sonko Endorsement
Mosiria’s definitive declaration comes just days after he publicly sought political counsel from former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. On September 26, 2026, Mosiria shared details of a conversation where he consulted Sonko on which elective seat would offer a strategic, low-pressure path to victory in the city.
During that consultation, revealed that members of the Kisii community residing in Nairobi had been actively fronting and endorsing him to contest the county’s top seat.
“Ni kiti gani ile nikisimama naweza kuingia nayo mapema yenye haina pressure mingi? Unajua wewe ndio unaelewa Nairobi (Which seat can I run for and win easily without much pressure? You are the one who understands Nairobi’s political landscape),” Mosiria had asked.
Sonko gave a direct, single-word response: “Governor.”
With his latest pronouncement, has solidified that advice into an active campaign strategy, officially expanding the pool of candidates targeting the Nairobi governorship.
