MIGORI, Kenya — A dark cloud has hung over Magoto Village in Suna West, Migori County, after a 35-year-old woman was tragically struck and killed by a falling tree while travelling on a motorcycle.
The deceased has been identified by police as Elizabeth Andeyo Magaya, a resident of the Marimba area.
According to police reports, the fatal incident occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, within Wasweta Sub-Location, Suna South Location. Magaya was reportedly travelling as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle ridden by her brother-in-law when the journey took a horrific turn.
Fatal Impact on the Road
Authorities state that as the motorcycle approached a section of the road in Magoto Village, a known local resident was actively cutting down a tree next to the thoroughfare.
In a devastating turn of events, the tree fell just as the motorcycle passed by, striking Magaya heavily on the head. The impact killed her on the spot. Miraculously, her brother-in-law, who was riding the motorcycle, escaped the freak accident entirely unhurt.
Police Launch Investigation as Suspects Flee
Police officers who rushed to the scene made a startling discovery, noting that both the motorcycle rider and the individual who had been cutting down the tree had already fled the area before law enforcement arrived.
The scene was thoroughly processed and documented by responding officers. The body of the deceased has since been moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is currently being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Local authorities have urged members of the public with any information regarding the whereabouts of the rider and the woodcutter to come forward as investigations into the incident intensify.
