Nyamira governor Amos Nyaribo political career has run into headwinds after a majority of MCA’s in his county signed a petition to impeach him.
Sources say 28 MCAs had by Sunday evening signed a petition to impeach the governor. The county assembly has 20 elected MCAs and 15 who are nominated.
Sources say that those who have signed the petition accuse the governor of alleged corruption and mismangement of the county.
Other sources however say that the impeachment motion is linked to politics. This is because the governor three weeks ago pledged to work with President William Ruto.
Nyaribo is the party leader of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), one of the parties that was part of the Azimio la Umoja coalition during last year’s election.
UPA which is the predominant party on the Gusii region said it was shifting camps in order to get development for its people.
Azimio principal Raila Odinga considers Nyanza, where Nyamira is located to be part of his strongholds.
President William Ruto has however been making in roads in the region especially in Nyamira where Nyaribo is the governor.
On the other hand, Raila who is losing grip of the Abagusii has decided to prop up Kisii governor Simba Arati as his point man in the region replacing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi.
On Thursday, Raila chose Arati as the national vice chairperson of the ODM party.
