Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports, Ababu Namwamba, made a heartwarming visit to the home of veteran broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela in Nairobi on Tuesday to inquire about his well-being.
In an official statement from the Ministry, it was revealed that CS Ababu Namwamba presented Mr. Mbotela with the prestigious Hongera Award and a generous cash prize of Ksh.1 million, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the nation.
The meeting between the CS and the legendary broadcaster, renowned for his iconic ‘Je Huu Ni Uungwana’ program, was a moment of nostalgia as they reminisced about the golden era of radio broadcasting, particularly in the realm of sports commentary, as stated in the ministry’s announcement.
The statement further emphasized that “CS Ababu thanked the broadcaster for his contribution to radio broadcast in the country, adding that his name was firmly etched in the history of our nation.”
The Sports CS also lauded the legendary broadcaster for his role in nurturing and mentoring numerous journalists who are making significant contributions to the country’s media landscape today.
