A 49-year-old man accused of impregnating his daughter was rescued by the police from an angry mob in Lare village, Lari sub-county, Kiambu county.
The incident occurred after the mother of the girl discovered the shocking situation. The mother then started shouting, attracting the attention of the neighbors.
The girl had kept quiet about the situation for some time trying to hide her condition. She was reluctant to reveal that her father was responsible for her pregnancy due to fear. The mother however became suspicious when she noticed her daughter was not attending school.
According to a neighbor, the girl eventually confided in her mother about the pregnancy. She admitted that her father was the one who had impregnated her.
“The girl told her mother that she was expectant. She feared telling her mother that it was her father who had impregnated her,” James Macharia said.
The revelation led to a commotion when the mother raised her voice on finding out the truth.
Since the father was not present at home, the residents began searching for him. He was found along the road near his house. The angry crowd descended on him with blows.
Lari sub-county police commander Adamson Furaha confirmed the incident, stating that the girl was in her seventh month of pregnancy. According to Furaha, the girl disclosed that her father had been sexually assaulting her since January, with their last encounter being on July 2.
Furaha explained that the father took advantage of his wife’s tiredness after work, pretending to stay in the living room watching movies while secretly entering his daughter’s bedroom.
“The victim’s mother goes to work but her husband is jobless. When the woman comes home, she is always tired and goes to bed early. Her husband pretends to stay in the table room watching movies” Furaha said.
“That is when he sneaks to the girl’s bedroom and spends some time there before going to his wife late at night,” he added.
The girl had been concealing her pregnancy from her mother until it became noticeable.
The suspect will face charges once the investigations are complete, according to the police.
